QIP was founded as an information provider to highlight the emerging opportunities in the field of quantum technology. QIP recognises that there is a wide gap between the research community and potential end users for this technology and are therefore:
- Keeping track of technical developments in the field of quantum information
processing, principally quantum cryptography, but also quantum computing
and other quantum technologies, and communicating this information to potential
users, highlighting the potential advantages, weaknesses, benefits and risks.
- Publicising the novel features of quantum cryptography and promoting
discussion of how best to employ the completely new facilities that this
technology puts in the armoury of cryptographers.
- Identifying applications, user groups and markets where the implementation
of quantum cryptography will be most beneficial.
- Creating an independent source of information to build awareness of what
suppliers can offer and what users need.
- Stimulating the development of systems designs to take the basic technology coming out of the laboratories and turning this into useful products that the commercial community can begin to exploit.
- Stimulating a discussion of the wider and longer term implications that this novel new branch of physics is potentially offering to the whole telecommunications infrastructure.
